The Bahamas – TC KATE
• KATE turned into a Tropical Storm on 9 November and moved through the eastern and central islands of the Bahamas.
• KATE is forecast to move north and then north-east over the Atlantic, slightly intensifying, but remaining over water and far from any land, over the next 48 h.
Yrmen, Somalia – TC MEGH
• MEGH crossed the Gulf of Aden and made landfall near the city of Aden just before midnight 9 to 10 November, with intensity equivalent to a Tropical Storm.
• Heavy rainfall and strong winds affected the areas along MEGH's path. UNOCHA reports six deaths in Socotra, as of 9 November.
• Gulf countries and humanitarian agencies have started sending food, non-food items and medical aid to Socotra and the rest of the affected areas in Yemen, according to UNOCHA, as of 9 November. Rainfall and strong winds are expected to continue affecting southwestern Yemen on 10 November.
INDIA – Severe weather
• A Tropical Depression formed over the Bay of Bengal on 8 November and reached the coast of Tamil Nadu early on 9 November as a Deep Depression.
• Heavy rainfall and winds affected Tamil Nadu over 8-10 November, causing floods and damage. As of 10 November, media report at least 10 people killed.
• Over the next 24 h, it is forecast to continue moving west, weakening. Heavy rains may still continue affecting Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Andhra Pradesh.
Colombia – Severe weather
• Heavy rainfall and consequent river overflow, floods and landslides have been affecting the western part of Colombia over the past week.
• As of 10 November, floods have been reported in 10 departments, mostly in Cauca, Cordoba, Bolivar, Caldas and Norte de Santander, according to local authorities quoted in media.
• Rainfall may continue affecting western Colombia on 10 November. The national meteorological agency has issued a Red Alert for river overflow and landslides in the departments of Narino and Caldas.
Somalia – Floods
• So far, about 90,000 people have been affected by flooding in Somalia, where moderate Deyr rains have started to hit the southern regions of the country. As a result of the flooding, 42,000 people have been displaced.
