Situation report on severe floods caused by heavy rainfall in coastal Andhra Pradesh (India) were analyzed using Sentinel-1 satellite images obtained from European Space Agency. From the observation it is very clear large agriculture areas and rural populations in Nellore and Chittoor were severely affected due to floods.
From the flood map it is very clear roads, railway lines and houses have been damaged in the heavy rains as water rose to the level of the roofs which is reported by Media and government sources. At least 100 people have lost their lives in the state due to floods and related incidents.
Eight mandals in Chittoor district received 20 cm rainfall since Monday. Some places in Nellore district received as high as 30 cm rainfall.
The highway at Naidupeta-Sullurpeta was also flooded, disrupting vehicular traffic between Tirupati and Kanchipuram. It is estimated approx. 500km of roadways were damaged due to floods.
